Privacy Policy

LooksMatch ("we," "our," or "us") operates the LooksMatch mobile application (the "App"), available on iOS and Android. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our App. By using LooksMatch, you consent to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Name, email address, and date of birth
- Gender and gender preferences
- Profile details you choose to provide, such as bio, height, interests, and other descriptive information
- Authentication credentials (passwords are stored as secure bcrypt hashes; we never store plaintext passwords)
1.2 Photos and Media
We collect photos you upload to your profile. EXIF metadata, including GPS coordinates, is automatically stripped from all uploaded images before they are stored on our servers.
1.3 Face Scan and Facial Geometry Data
Important: LooksMatch uses your device's camera and machine learning technology to analyze facial geometry for the purpose of generating an attractiveness score. Please read this section carefully.
When you use the Face Scan feature, the App captures an image using your device's camera. This image is transmitted securely to our servers, where machine learning models analyze facial geometry data, including facial landmark positions, proportions, and symmetry measurements.
How facial geometry data is handled:
- Facial geometry data is processed server-side solely for the purpose of generating your attractiveness score.
- We do not store raw facial geometry data or biometric identifiers after scoring is complete. The scan image is processed, a numeric score is generated, and the raw facial analysis data is discarded.
- Facial geometry data is not used to identify you or any other individual. It is used exclusively for scoring purposes.
- We do not sell, share, or disclose facial geometry data to any third party.
- Your scan images may be retained temporarily (no longer than 24 hours) for processing purposes, after which they are permanently deleted from our scoring pipeline.
- You may request deletion of all data associated with your face scans at any time by deleting your account.
By using the Face Scan feature, you expressly consent to the collection and processing of your facial geometry data as described above. You may choose not to use the Face Scan feature, though this will limit your access to scoring and certain matching features.
1.4 Selfie Verification Data
If you opt into selfie verification, we capture a live selfie to confirm your identity matches your profile photos. The verification selfie is compared against your profile photos using automated analysis. Verification status (verified or not verified) is stored on your profile. The verification selfie itself is deleted after the verification process is complete.
1.5 Location Data
With your permission, we collect your approximate geographic location to show you nearby users and improve match recommendations. Location data is collected only when you grant location permissions on your device. You may revoke location access at any time through your device settings. We do not collect precise GPS coordinates continuously; location is updated when you actively use the App.
1.6 Device Information
We automatically collect certain device information, including:
- Device type, model, and manufacturer
- Operating system and version
- Unique device identifiers
- Push notification token
- App version
1.7 Usage Data
We collect data about how you interact with the App, including:
- Swipe actions (likes and passes)
- Match and unmatch events
- Messages sent and received (content and timestamps)
- Scores, ratings, and leaderboard interactions
- Feature usage patterns and session duration
- Notification preferences and interaction with notifications
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Provide AI-powered attractiveness scoring via face scan analysis
- Generate match recommendations and display your profile to other users
- Operate the swiping, matching, and messaging features
- Maintain the leaderboard and ranking system
- Process identity verification requests
- Process in-app purchases and manage premium subscriptions
- Send push notifications about new matches, messages, score updates, and other App activity (configurable in Settings)
- Detect and prevent fraud, fake accounts, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service
- Improve, personalize, and optimize the App experience
- Respond to your support inquiries
- Comply with legal obligations
3. Third-Party Services
We integrate with the following third-party services to operate the App:
3.1 Authentication Providers
- Apple Sign-In: If you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email address (or a private relay email) as authorized by you. Apple's privacy policy governs their handling of your data.
- Google Sign-In: If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo as authorized by you. Google's privacy policy governs their handling of your data.
3.2 Payment Processing
- RevenueCat: We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions and purchases. RevenueCat processes transaction data on our behalf. We do not directly collect or store your payment card information. All payment processing for App Store and Google Play purchases is handled by Apple and Google respectively.
3.3 Cloud Infrastructure and Storage
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): We use AWS for photo storage (S3), server hosting, and database infrastructure. Data is stored in encrypted form.
3.4 Analytics
We may use analytics tools to understand how users interact with the App. Analytics data is collected in aggregate and is used solely to improve the App. We do not sell analytics data to third parties.
3.5 Push Notifications
- Apple Push Notification Service (APNs): Used to deliver notifications to iOS devices.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): May be used to deliver notifications to Android devices.
4. Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in these limited circumstances:
- With Other Users: Your public profile information (name, age, photos, scores, rank, verification status) is visible to other App users as part of the matching and leaderboard features.
- With Service Providers: We share data with the third-party service providers described in Section 3, solely for them to perform services on our behalf, under contractual obligations to protect your data.
- For Legal Compliance: We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or governmental request, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
- Business Transfers: If LooksMatch is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.
5. Messages and Communications
Messages sent between matched users are stored on our servers to provide the messaging feature. Messages are transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS/SSL). We do not read, monitor, or share the content of your private messages except when required by law or when investigating reported violations of our Terms of Service.
6. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information, including:
- Passwords hashed with bcrypt using industry-standard salt rounds
- JWT-based authentication with secure token rotation
- Refresh tokens stored as SHA-256 hashes
- Authentication tokens stored in secure device storage (Expo SecureStore)
- SSL/TLS encryption for all data in transit
- EXIF/GPS metadata stripped from uploaded photos
- Rate limiting and abuse prevention on API endpoints
- Input sanitization to prevent injection attacks
- Encrypted data storage at rest
While we take reasonable precautions to protect your data, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide you with our services. Specific retention periods:
- Active accounts: Data is retained for the lifetime of the account.
- Deactivated accounts: If you deactivate your account, your data is retained for 30 days to allow reactivation. Your profile is hidden from other users during this period.
- Deleted accounts: When you permanently delete your account, all associated data — including your profile, photos, messages, matches, scores, and scan history — is permanently and irreversibly removed from our systems.
- Face scan processing data: Raw facial analysis data is deleted within 24 hours of processing. Only the resulting numeric score is retained.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. You can export your data via the "Export My Data" feature in Settings.
- Rectification: Update or correct your personal information at any time through your profile settings.
- Deletion: Permanently delete your account and all associated data through Settings. You may also contact us to request deletion.
- Restriction: Deactivate your account to temporarily hide your profile from other users.
- Objection: Block specific users to prevent them from seeing your profile or interacting with you.
- Data Portability: Export your data in a structured, machine-readable JSON format.
- Withdraw Consent: You may withdraw consent for location data, push notifications, or face scanning at any time through your device or App settings.

9. Children's Privacy
LooksMatch is strictly intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a minor, we will take immediate steps to delete the account and all associated data. If you believe a user is under 18, please report them through the App or contact us at support@info.looksmatchapp.com.
10. Push Notifications
With your permission, we send push notifications about new matches, messages, score updates, leaderboard changes, and other App activity. You can customize which types of notifications you receive in the App's Settings screen. You can also disable push notifications entirely through your device's system settings.
11. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have different data protection laws. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to such countries. We take appropriate safeguards to ensure your data remains protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
12. California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. 13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. When we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated policy in the App and updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
