Privacy Policy

LooksMatch ("we", "our", or "us") operates the LooksMatch mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our App.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, password (stored as a secure hash), age, gender, and optional profile details such as bio, height, and weight.

Photos: We collect photos you upload to your profile. We strip EXIF metadata (including GPS coordinates) from uploaded images before storing them.

Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the App, including ratings you give and receive, match interactions, messages sent, and notification preferences.

Device Information: We may collect your device type, operating system version, and push notification token for delivering notifications.

Location: If you grant permission, we collect your approximate location to help find people near you. You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings.

2. How We Use Your Information

To create and manage your account
To provide AI-powered attractiveness scoring and matching
To display your profile to other users and generate recommendations
To facilitate messaging between matched users
To operate the leaderboard and tier system
To send push notifications about matches, messages, and ratings (configurable in Settings)
To improve and maintain the App
To enforce our Terms of Service and protect against misuse

3. AI Scoring

LooksMatch uses machine learning models to generate attractiveness scores from your photos. These scores are used for matchmaking and leaderboard features. Photos are processed by our ML service and are not shared with third parties for this purpose. AI scores are derived from facial analysis and are not a reflection of your worth as a person.

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

Other Users: Your public profile (username, age, photos, ratings, rank) is visible to other App users.
Service Providers: We use AWS for photo storage and SMTP providers for transactional emails. These providers process data on our behalf under strict data protection agreements.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

Passwords hashed with bcrypt (12 salt rounds)
JWT-based authentication with token rotation
Refresh tokens stored as SHA-256 hashes in the database
Tokens stored in secure device storage (expo-secure-store)
EXIF/GPS metadata stripped from uploaded photos
Rate limiting on API endpoints to prevent abuse
Input sanitization to prevent XSS attacks
SSL/TLS encryption for data in transit

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you deactivate your account, your data is retained for 30 days to allow reactivation. After permanent account deletion, all your data (profile, photos, messages, ratings, matches) is immediately and irreversibly removed from our systems.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access: Export all your data via the "Export My Data" feature in Settings (GDPR-compliant data export)
Rectification: Update your profile information at any time
Deletion: Permanently delete your account and all associated data via Settings
Restriction: Deactivate your account to temporarily hide your profile
Object: Block other users to prevent them from viewing your content or interacting with you
Portability: Export your data in a structured JSON format

8. Children's Privacy

LooksMatch is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we discover that a user is under 18, we will promptly delete their account and data.

9. Push Notifications

You can control which notifications you receive (matches, messages, ratings, leaderboard updates) in the App's Settings screen. You can also disable push notifications entirely through your device settings.

10. Third-Party Links

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the App and updating the "Last updated" date above.
